Dear JA Supporter:

As summer comes to a close and another school year is upon us, we at JA look forward to teaching even more students the lessons that will change their lives and the future of America.

This coming year - as JA of Chicago celebrates 70 years of community outreach! - we hope to reach 410,000 students in the Chicagoland area, supplying them with the tools, confidence, and skills that will reshape how they view and participate in the world around them.

In addition to helping our youth achieve and succeed, volunteering with JA has the power to transform your own life as well.  To learn more about the personal benefits of being a JA volunteer, see our article below illustrating the many ways JA can help you reach your full potential.

So as some find it hard to relinquish summer days and the relatively carefree months of June, July, and August, at JA we see three great reasons to get involved with JA - for our youth, for ourselves, and for the future of this great nation.

To ensure that we can impact as many students as possible, we need your help to provide these programs to schools at no-cost. Your time and investment in JA will be beneficial for you and life-changing for those students you reach - so contact us today to get involved!

Sincerely,

Sandy Daffé
President
JA of Chicago

Celebrate 70 Years of Achievement in Chicago!

JA of Chicago is now in its "golden years", celebrating 70 years of success, but we will never slow down or retire our commitment to help kids reach their highest potential.  In fact, this year we hope to reach the most students ever and to make a greater impact than ever before!!!

One thing is for sure though - without the commitment and hard work put forth by volunteers, educators, students, and parents, JA of Chicago would never be where we are today. As part of this reflection on 7 decades of achievement, we hope you will join us at our Annual Meeting to celebrate a tradition of dedicated service and support that has led to unprecedented growth and opportunities for Chicagoland youth.

Annual MeetingJunior Achievement of Chicago's 2010 Annual Meeting will be held on Thursday, September 16th at The Standard Club in downtown Chicago. This event will begin with a reception at 11:30 a.m., followed by a luncheon at noon the cost to attend is $45.

We hope you will join us for this exciting occasion as we commemorate all of our supporters who made this anniversary possible. For more information or to RSVP, please contact Janice Jones at (312) 715-1300 ext. 223 or jjones@jachicago.org.

Volunteer and Do Some Good - for Yourself!

The positive impact of JA programs on our youth is something that has been well documented. We often focus on the influence of our programs on students, and in turn, overlook the importance and meaning that volunteering for JA has in our own lives. Of course, it is essential that our programs be targeted to help our next generation be well prepared and successful.

At the same time, it is crucial that by giving your time as a JA volunteer, you reap some rewards from the experience in your own life as well.  JA Worldwide compiled The Benefits of Employee Volunteer Programs to demonstrate how volunteering influences employee attitudes and job satisfaction, a company's bottom line, and community attitudes toward companies that sponsor these programs.

Some benefits to volunteering include: The Benefits of
Employee Volunteering
• 14-17% gain in competency as a direct result from volunteering
• Increased job satisfaction levels
• Increased positive word of mouth among employees about their employer
• Higher retention rates for employees
• Increased development of leadership skills for the workplace

Be one of the 61 million American adults who volunteer, and see how quickly your life and your workplace are enhanced! After reading more about the benefits of volunteering, you will no doubt want to get involved. Please contact us to see how to get involved and consider supporting our dedicated volunteers.

A Great Day FORE! JA on the Links

The 2010 Golf Outing was a tremendous success for JA again this year! The weather turned out nice as 66 foursomes attended to enjoy a day of great golf, excellent food and fun activities out on the links!

The outing was held Monday, August 9th at Cog Hill Golf and Country Club where JA occupied three courses, including world-class Dubsdread, home of the 2010 BMW Championship. More than $275,000 was raised to help support JA's economic education programs this school year!

2010 Golf ClinicGolfers at this year's outing were excited to receive a pair of FootJoy golf shoes and a sleeve of Pro V1 golf balls courtesy of Fortune Brands. Stan Utley, rated one of the top golf pros in America, held a morning clinic sponsored by Huron Consulting Group to give golfers some tips and tricks about the short game before play began and stayed after golfer's rounds to give a short Q&A.

After a great round on the course, golfers ended the day with an afternoon reception featuring hors d'oeuvres, cocktails, and both a live and silent auction. This year's major sponsors included: Illinois Tool Works Inc., HSBC, Fortune Brands, Inc., Huron Consulting Group and United Airlines - thanks again to all participants and sponsors for making this an event to remember!  If you have questions or are interested in participating in next year's event, please contact Julie Nicewander at 312-715-1300 x255 or jnicewander@jachicago.org.
