Last month, Daubenspeck and Associates held their first company-wide JA in Day, volunteering at Mozart Elementary School in Chicago. They filled the entire 3rd grade and reached about 75 students!

The volunteers led the students in the JA Our City program and were introduced to the basics of financial literacy, the characteristics of cities, and how people and businesses in cities manage their money. Students explored zoning found within a city; the importance of money to a city, paying taxes, and how people use different methods to pay for goods and services. They also explored how financial institutions, entrepreneurs, and news media contribute to the financial well-being of a city.

Rima Daubenspeck of Daubenspeck and Associates says, “We are honored and excited to have taken part in JA’s program. JA did a fantastic job of preparing us to be in the classroom and the school’s teachers were extremely supportive and helpful once we were there; all we had to do was show up with the lesson plan that JA provided. The students were a joy to be around—we went in with intention of positively influencing them and were delighted to find that they had an equal effect on us. They gave us a glimpse of who they are and what tremendous potential lies in them.”

Daubenspeck and Associates has partnered with JA since 2006, and its founder, Ken Daubenspeck, is on the JA Board of Directors and JA alumn. Read about Ken’s time as a JA student here.

Thank you Daubenspeck and Associates for volunteering!
